Cancun was pretty nice before the hurricanes. So was Puerto Vallarta for that matter and just make sure to drink bottled water and lots of alcohol.

So, Guatamala must be really bad, since the Mexican army patrols its southern border to prevent the aliens from the south from illegally entering Mexico!

I enjoy the lawlessness personally. If you could make more than 2 bits an hour there i'd already live there.
Drinking tequila at 3am with a bunch of hot latina's and buying your way outta a speeding ticket=greatness.

You get Mexico when one party runs the government for 70 years. It is inevitable the leaders become corrupt - hence the corrupt PRI party that gave its citizens triple digit inflation by robbing the treasury and running the printing presses for pesos.

1965: 12 pesos = $1
1988: 3000 Pesos = $1

They then issued nuevo pesos. 3 "new" pesos = $1.

When PAN party Fox ended the 70 years of corrupt PRI domination, 10 pesos = $1. After six years, it was 11 pesos =$1, about what it still is today. Fox did a great job keeping the peso stable.

Fox and his successor have helped to end the nightmare inflation. It will take a while to recover from the 70 years of PRI corruption, but free market conservatives Fox and Felipe Calderon have been good for Mexico. It is headed in the right direction.

thank God a socialist like Venezuela's Hugo Chavez isn't ruling Mexico. Our continent needs free market capitalism.

You have no idea. After spending time in Guat City, I have no simpathy for "poor" people in the US. The "poor people" here have no idea what poverty really is like.

Also, they interupted the World Series for a presidential speech. WTF is up with that.

Yes, its citizens are headed north, where they can participate in the free market, and send some of their money back home, to be able to afford to bring the rest of their families north, to join those already here.

They've been doing this for 100 years, except during the Great Depression, when there was reverse migration. Again - largely in part to the failures of the corrupt PRI 70 year domination.

The big difference now is that, it has become so expensive to cross the border, once they get here they tend to stay (and for some bring their family) instead of going back home seasonally. Tightening the borders unwittingly increased permanent residency by many who are illegally present.

But yes, you are correct. They are participating in a free market of labor. Since Ronald Reagan, we have had an economic boom like no other period in history which has created an insatiable demand for labor.

In 1960, 50% of the U.S. workforce were not high school graduates. This has fallen to about 10%. Immigrants, both legally and illegally present, are filling that void to meet the demand of labor.

(Crime, overburdening the healthcare emergency system, the education system, terrorists among them, potential for voter fraud, etc., plus the fact that THEY ARE HERE ILLEGALLY) I don't often agree with you, but you are correct in what you say. However, the "Rest of the Story" is the problem.

Plus it helps when the Mexican gov't (no matter who is in power) looks to the US to take care of their poor leaving whatever is valuable to them. It is just amazing that they defend their southern border so vigorously against illegal immigration yet chastise the US for trying to enforce our southern border. They could care less about the majority of the population, that is why they encourage the immigration (legal or illegal) to the US so we have to deal with their problem. But that isn't much different than any ruling class in any country, including ours.

to be clear, I am not advocating illegal presence by workers from Mexico. I advocate giving those who want to work a biometric worker visa. the fact that 5% of our labor force is black market labor is shameful.

I can't speak to Oklahoma's labor demands, but in California there are high labor demands for agriculture and tourism (hotel and restaurant). Construction is presently down, but during growth periods, there are huge construction labor demands.

I thought it was mainly because of the water at first.....

I mean, i went to Aculpoco over spring break with the family, and 6 out of the 7 of us that were there got sick in some form or fashion.

Not fun. But the trip was besides that part.

Not fun. But the trip was besides that part.I drive down from PHX to Puerto Penasco, Sonora Mex. for the weekend every couple of months, to fish. I take all my water with me, don't eat any raw veggies, or water at restaurants, including ice. Getting the "turistas" is repulsive, and ruins any trip. Of course, if you fly in, you have to trust their "bottled" water. You can get lucky with that.
