So in 2004 I was in Manhattan, Kansas celebrating the end of a college canoeing trip. We were drinking in Aggieville at bar that had 1.50 24oz. Bud Heavy. There were two bands from Tulsa playing that night. The first band was a Strokes/Hives knockoff three piece that had a CD for sale. All I remember about them is that the obvious Strokes Hives influence, and the bassist played a Thunderbird. The second band was a heavy metal band, and all I remember about them is the guitarist played with a lit cigarette in his hand most of the time, and they indulged our request to cover Immigrant Song (which they did quite well). Does any one from Tulsa know the bands I'm talking about and what their names were?

For the first band, I'll guess The Effects (http://www.myspace.com/theeffects). (They were a three-piece in 2004. They would have been 17-18 years old too.)

For the second band, I'll guess every other band in Tulsa.
Down For Five (http://www.downforfive.com/)? Failsafe (http://www.myspace.com/failsafeok)? Fighting Tomorrow (http://www.purevolume.com/fightingtomorrow)? Bait (http://www.baitrocks.com/)?

The Effects rings a bell. I think the other band had a set of brothers in it, if that helps. They were more 70's Stoner Metal than Modern Metal. Hower, my memory is pretty fuzzy because those cheap beers went down fast.
