My parents used to mix hot Dr. Pepper, rum and lemon and give it my brother and me when we we had colds. Don't know if it cured the cold, but it sure shut us the f*** up for a while.

Mom would make us put down whatever choking hazard we were playing with, treat us with saccharine in an asbestos spoon, then drive us to the doctor in our Corvair, without seatbelts, with our flammable pajamas on. His office had doorknobs, the nurse wore a white uniform and smoked and the doc prescribed something with DDT in it.
