View Full Version : Little known (it seems) facts about the Sugar Bowl

1. There is only one Sugar Bowl game this year.
2. There are 2 games played in New Orleans, being organized by the Sugar Bowl committee, with teams selected under BCS rules, but the 2nd of these is the Allstate BCS National Championship Game, not the 2nd Sugar Bowl.
3. There is not, and never was, a Sugar Bowl stadium, the way there is a Rose Bowl in Pasadena, an Orange Bowl in Miami, a Cotton Bowl in Dallas, and a Sun Bowl in El Paso. The Sugar Bowl was played at Tulane Stadium from its inception in 1935 until it moved to the SuperDome in 1975. Tulane Stadium was sometimes informally referred to as the Sugar Bowl, but never officailly named that. It was demolished in 1980.

another little known fact: this isn't the first thread on this... secondly, if they are playing in new orleans in january, it's the sugar bowl... heh.. its the same as the whole fbs fcs thing, it don't matter it's still 1-a and 1-aa

yeah, i don't really see what the big issue with this is, but still is this still a "bowl" game? would it be included in a team's "bowl record", etc...?

i know which game i'm talking about, and i do call the NC game the NC game but if someone says something about playing the NC game in the sugar bowl i feel no need to correct them...
