Obligatory post because it's a weather thread and I really need to pad my post count.

SRSLY, though, there were some pretty good Cat 5 storms this year. They just stayed south and hit Mexico.

Global warming caused all the horrendous hurricanes in recent years. I guess since it was so quiet this year, global warming must be over. Huzzah!

SEC blows and kept them away. They all struck the Yucatan instead.

The Global Warming that caused all the Cat 5 storms to form also caused them to go away. Looks like the Environment took one for the team yet again:)

Proving once again, "extreme long-range meterological forecasts"* are, well, kinda a crap shoot. Been my experience anyway.

NHC Prediction (http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/outlooks/figure1.gif) as of May 2007:

named storms: 13-17
hurricanes: 7-9
major (Cat 3-5) hurricanes: 3-5

They don't try to predict the number of landfalling storms.

2007 so far (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Atlantic_hurricane_season)

named storms: 14
hurricanes: 5
major hurricanes: 2

The two major hurricanes so far were both Cat 5, and this was the first time ever that two Cat 5 hurricanes have made landfall in one season. IIRC, Dean was also the earliest Cat 5 in a season. Hurricane season in the Atlantic officially ends November 30, but storms formed in December of 2005.

I was hopiing for at least one evacuation this season so I could hit a game and tailgate in Norman.
