Bush, family sued by sports marketer for nearly $300,000 in cash, gifts

SAN DIEGO -- A sports marketer has filed a lawsuit against former Southern California running back Reggie Bush and his parents that seeks to recoup nearly $300,000 in cash and gifts they allegedly accepted from him during Bush's sophomore and junior seasons.

The suit filed by Lloyd Lake on Tuesday in Superior Court claims Bush and his family received $291,600 in cash, living arrangements and other benefits between November 2004 and January 2006.

The suit comes nearly two years after allegations first surfaced and has prompted the NCAA and Pac-10 to launch their own investigation.

An e-mail message left for Bush's attorney, David Cornwell, was not immediately returned.

Some say it's about time... I just don't care anymore. The past isn't changing.

I care - the ncaa took away from Stoops and the Sooners victory count, did a little scholly reduction........ Not to mention all the crap the suc has gotten away with. It's time to stick a dagger in those bastards.......and twist it repeatedly. Sorry if my animosity for suc is coming through here, I'm really trying to be nice.

I'm not saying I wouldn't be happy if the NCAA did something because I would. I'd laugh if they just come unwound.

however, isn't it strange that this just comes up right after SUC's second loss of the season when they are officially out of it?

That game was a no-win proposition from our point of view. I just hope the Pac-10 teams can knock each other out of it. Maybe Mike Stoops can step up for us. Can we loan him some backups for a few weeks?

On WeAreSC, they're not even concerned whether the transactions took place, only if there is enough evidence to put the team in the NCAA klinker.

I think Reggie is to blame for most of it....

He had to know his Family was getting perks and he didn't cut them off.

Does anyone think Bush won't just open up the old check book and make this thing go away? He'll pay Lake off just like he did Michaels and the NCAA still won't have what they need.

If the NCAA can't get a hold of USC on this one, they'll have opened Pandora's Box. USC has given the blueprint for buying MNC's and getting away with it.

Bet the 2008 USC recruiting class will start looking around at other colleges.

It was in the LA Times that he has already met with the NCAA and turned everything over before filing the lawsuit. NCAA has all they need now -- now we sit back and see if they do something. If they don't, they have opened pandora's box for OU and other schools to sue IMHO for being unfairly penalized.

BTW, those losses are not official as OU has appealed.

Everyone can find corruption at USC except the NCAA, which seems to be turning its head. I have given up.

Seems Bush or his family may have received this amount over roughly 1 year period.

How could Bush not know when

"The money allegedly included about $13,000 that Bush used to purchase a 1996 Chevrolet Impala registered in his name."

The quote is part of the LA Times article.

If Bush must return the Heisman Trophy, who will get it?

I'm glad that Yahoo! Sports and SI's Stewart Mandel are not letting this die. I think it's a travesty when OU gets slapped for self-reporting and USC is rewarded for willful blindness.

Nah, I don't care about that. When I registered here, I knew what to expect. But I can't always get the games I want to see here and I like following the gameday threads.

I have to say, the spek comments have been hilarious. First off, I am not a troll, and this is my only handle here. I post under the same name on orangepower. I like to follow Big 12 football and the TVs at the bars here tend to be dominated by Big 10/Big East games.

To answer some of your other questions/comments, I have never roped or fugged a goat; to my knowledge, my mother never had carnal relations with the Easter Bunny; I neither spit nor swallow; I'm not sure what "gerbiling" is, but I don't think my Dad ever engaged in it; and I don't know how to back a cow to a stump, nor do I know why I would want to.

Then you actually obviously did not attend OSU. So much for OSU not having bandwagon fans, and that all their fans actually went to the university...
