unfortunate bad news golf thread.
we lost our superintendent (head green's keeper) in a drowning accident over the weekend. he and his wife were in puerto rico getting ready for a cruise to celebrate their 25th anniversary. apparently they were swimming and got caught in an undertow. He managed to save his wife by pushing her up on a rock... but unfortunately was unable to save himself. apparently they tried for a while to get him back, but no luck.
it sounds cliche, but he really was a fantastic man and was very good at what he did. very big in his church and had great respect among those who worked under him.
spirits are very down here - especially for those that have been here since he was. he was here for about 5 years (and was the head guy at baltusrol for a few years before this).
whatever your beliefs, keep his family in your thoughts/prayers. he was from the pittsburg area and many of our members/staff will be making the trip down. very sad times.
