Bum Chicks

I saw a bum chick yesterday in OKC sitting on the median collecting money at an intersection near the Capitol Complex. She was still sitting there when we left 2+ hours later.

I'm not sure I can remember ever seeing a bum chick before.

I see one near the bus station on Walker all the time. She's got a pimp grocery cart set-up thingie. Not making fun - she's really got this giant grocery cart that she's modified into this huge rolling thing loaded with all her stuff. It's quite impressive.

I've often wanted to stop and just find out what her story is. I'm interested. For some reason.

There are two bum chicks that take turns sitting in the median at 23rd & Broadway. One has long, grey hair and has had a bandage on her right leg for a couple months now. The other one is skinny with a grown out buzz cut (about an inch long now). They have been out there almost all summer - they're there when I drive by before work and during lunch. I don't drive that way on the way home, so I don't know if they're still out there then. I even saw one of them sitting there on a Sunday. Really sad.

And of course, I can't forget the time I saw a guy standing in their spot one day this summer. He looked like he was in his mid-20s, but didn't look like he had been homeless for very long...Anyway, he was holding a cardboard sign, but as I drove closer to him I noticed his sign read "LIARS SUCK." Wonder what his story was.

When VK was prego with our 1st I ran a commercial paper route, delivering to 7-11's and such. It was a nice 2nd income with the baby coming and all. I used to run into these guys begging for money at 4am in the convenience stores, got to talking to one and he told me he cleared $300 a night. He even worked a deal with the clerk to let him stay for a percentage.

I saw a bum chick at NW Expressway and I-44 the other day. First time I saw a chick at that location.

We have a "regular" at the 7-11 at 23rd and Penn. I truly think he lives there. I bought him a happy meal once, but I kept the toy for my daughter.

the d00d at the Pauls Valley exit lives in the hotel nearby and makes enough during the summer that he doesn't have to work the rest of the year. must be nice to only work 3 months out of the year....

one of the guys in my novel class spend a month in NYC this summer and ended up talking to a bunch of the homeless people.... now he's writing a novel about a chick who moves to NYC and ends up homeless.

There's a homeless chick at the Choctaw travel plaza over in Atoka. She begs from all the oilfield hands. She's kinda creepy & gross--in a haven't bathed in a month kind of way.

So far she hasn't hit me up for any $. My '92 POS Ford truck makes me look broke. :D
