Thank God I am home sick today. My big 80lb dog just took a big swim in a closed swimming pool and couldn't get out. So now our cover is at the bottom of the pool and the dogs are now in the garage for the duration until we get a fence or something around the pool.

Any suggestions on how to keep the dogs out of the pool.

Fill pool with Yoshida's. Dogs will be tastily marinated by the time you get home.

I'd suggest a fence, but you're being all snippy.

I have a cat she doesn't do **** except lay around all day.

Seriously you guys this was way traumatic, I have been puking and freezing all day only to hear this gigantic splash and my poor Maggie clinging on to the side for her dear little life.

I can't stop shaking, I don't know what I would have done if I had been gone and come home to find my little girl in the pool.

A dolphin in the pool might keep the dogs out. They're territorial.

...or one of those motion activiated sprinklers might do the trick.

A downed power line in the pool would seem to me to be a nice deterrent.

10/23/2007, 02:05 PM
That would be terrifying.

I have no idea how to keep them out, they always seem to end up falling back in.

Yermom's idea is a good one, as well as SAS's.

That or a shark with a frickin' laser on it's head would do the trick as well.

They say laughter is the best medicine, don't they? I'm sure we're helping.

Each of our dogs fell in once. After that they weren't stupid enough to do it again (except when one got really old and senile).

If they keep doing it, train them to get to the steps out?

Hit the pool with enough nitrogen to freeze over the top and buy the dog some ice skates.

Then post it on YouTube.

See this makes about the third time she has fallen in since we bought this house a year ago. Each time she has been playing with the other dogs and has been "pushed" in.

My good, sweet and wonderful husband jumped in the pool tonight to get out all the stones so we could put the cover on. We have the sump pump going on top of the cover right now to get the water off the top so we can put it all back together again.

i had a stray dog that wouldn't leave one time. it was winter and the damn thing keep jumping off the deck onto the frozen pool. i would chase it off but it would come back. One day i come home and dont see the dog. i thinking finally hes move on. The next day i am thinking , "you know homer a stray dog just dont leave, i wonder?", And sure enough i go out to the pool the cover is tore all to hell, and the dog was floating. he gave it hell trying to get out, just couldnt do it.

The son and his buddies where there so i had him go dig a hole, we dragged out of the pool and the boys took it down to bury it. Problem was the ground was still frozen and they did not dig it deep enough, Poor things legs were sticking straight up. the boy just piled some dirt on them. by spring they were gone.

Anyway thats my dog in the pool story

Oh, and just put up a 3-4 foot high fence around it. I know in some places you're required to have the fence anyway to keep childred out. May help out on insurance rates too

or just fill it in

I watched my Dad do that once when it was about 40 degrees out. I showed up for dinner, and he was outside in a robe and his swimsuit. He already had the hot shower running, and literally jumped in, grabbed the stone, and was back out in about 4 seconds. He then barely toweled off ans hauled *** for the shower. It was hilarious to watch.

I think we are going to go with invisible fence, because our eldest doggie she loves to just sit at the edge and stare in. She have never gotten in it, but she just likes to lay by the pool. It makes her happy.
