So, I just got their new album, and after listening to it a few times, I have to say that they are, imho, the best and most consistent band of the last 10 years. Every cd that they come out with is better than the last. A lot of bands start out big, then decide to change their sound 3 albums into their careers and put out crap( see new linkin park). Now, im not going to say that they are one of the best bands of all time right now, but if they keep doing what they have been for the next 10 years, they could be.

I concur. Except for the Linkin Park part. I thought they were crappy all along.

Amen. Although I was not a fan of In Your Honor.

You could make the exact same comments, just replace "Foo Fighters" with "Tool".

Weird Al stepped it up with "White and Nerdy" too IMHO.

imho "There is Nothing Left to Lose" is their greatest album. I've only listened to like 1/2 of the new album and it's pretty good

your opinion is automatically disqualified for digging on linkin park. ;) and if you think the foo fighters are the best band you've heard in the last decade, that just shows that you don't venture very far from mtv/radio play. there's a LOT of stuff from the last decade.

don't get me wrong. i loved the foo fighters when i was 15, but they've been going down hill since...fast.

dave grohl needs to stick to drumming. he's a way better drummer than singer/songwriter. his work w/ QOTSA was killer.

that's a little over the top

for a mtv/radio band, there's a lot worse **** out there then the foo

probably 90-95% of it is worse then them

White Stripes, The Raconteurs, Wolfmother.

You're welcome.

as I said, 90-95% are worse then them

so unless those 3 bands are suddenly the only ones on mtv/radio now

then

Bwahahahahahaha

You couldn't be more wrong. You could try, but you would FAIL!

Tell me those three bands don't break the mold of cheesy Rock n Roll.

Leave behind the fact The Flaming Lips are from Okla.

What is Foo, and why are they fighting them?

Part of the Toh brotherhood.

On principle.

He also said the most consistent band over the last decade.

What are all these non MTV bands that have been great the last decade?

And Linkin Park succs...big time.

I have a pretty vast range of stuff on my ipod. I dont just stick to radio play. But im also not one of those people that think that the strokes and white stripes are genius because they sound a little different and dont take showers.

Dave Grohl may be a better drummer than songwriter, but thats like Sam Bradford being a better qb than golfer. He's damn good at both.

personally, this is my favorite cd since Eagles of Death Metal: Death By Sexy

it's more complex than their last few albums, which seemed to be filled with pretty predictable, flimsy music. the songs on this one have alot of changes and then come back full circle.

totally recommend this one, especially if you've been disappointed with their last few albums like me.

the colour and the shape was the last one i could stomache.

this new one is a little more layered with sound. i thought i'd hate it but for some reason, i don't.

Grohl is a hook writing machine, but I find their music predictable and it feels calculated. His lyrics are crap, but if you're just looking for driving beats and catchy tunes then I cannot say that the original premise of this thread is completely incorrect.

It's not terrible music, which also probably does put it in the top 5%, as someone else asserted.

Dave Grohl isn't the Foo Fighters drummer anymore, he is the guitarist/vocalist. He did play drums on the early studio work but the band always had a drummer on tour. Taylor Hawkins is the drummer.

I agree with the OP. Though with all the crap that's come out in the last decade, it may not be saying much, but they are a damn good band. "Everlong" from their 2nd album is my favorite song by them.

Love the Foo Fighters and they are consistent because all of their songs sound the same.;)

also, every band puts out a dud album. even the sacred Pink Floyd!!!

wank wank.

I love the Foo, however Dave typically only has 2-3 really good songs per album with the rest being filler. Not necessarily strict number of hits for every album, but they're a PERFECT "Greatest Hits" band. The closest he had to a very solid album was his debut.

I think his lyrics are actually pretty good, so I'm not sure where that opinion comes from. Best of You is a good example of some mighty fine songwriting abilities from all angles. Very simple, yet very good.

I would also agree that RHCP are more consistent, by a mile. They're the best band out there now and they have yet to put out an album that isn't loaded with great songs.

The sign of a great band is there are many great songs that you would never hear aside from buying the album. Dave could play a full set list with all of his really good songs and I wouldn't feel cheated at all. Going to a RHCP show you're ALWAYS going to miss songs that you want to hear, in legion. I know their catalog is more lengthy than the Foo, but even if you took the same number of albums its not even close.

Consider their two recent double albums. Stadium Arcadium >>>>>>>>> There is Nothing Left to Lose. MUCH greater...

That said, overall the Foo are definitely one of the better bands out there.

Come down don't you resist
You have such a delicate wrist
And if I give it a twist
Something to hold when I lose my breath
Will I find something in that
So give me just what I need
Another reason to bleed
ONE BY ONE hidden up my sleeve
ONE BY ONE hidden up my sleeve

Good point... but still, he can write good lyrics at times. Also, the lyrical melody is always pretty good.

I’ve got another confession to make
I’m your fool
Everyone’s got their chains to break
Holdin’ you

Were you born to resist or be abused?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Are you gone and onto someone new?

I needed somewhere to hang my head
Without your noose
You gave me something that I didn’t have
But had no use
I was too weak to give in
Too strong to lose
My heart is under arrest again
But I break loose
My head is giving me life or death
But I can’t choose
I swear I’ll never give in
No, I refuse

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
Your trust, you must
Confess

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Oh...

ooooh,oh,oh
ooooh,oh,oh
ooooh,oh,oh
ooooh,oh,oh
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
The life, the love
You'd die to heal
The hope that starts
The broken hearts
Your trust, you must
Confess

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?

I’ve got another confession my friend
I’m no fool
I’m getting tired of starting again
Somewhere new

Were you born to resist or be abused?
I swear I’ll never give in
I refuse

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
Your trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!

Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong

Tonight
I throw myself into
And out of the red, out of her head she sang

Come down
And waste away with me
Down with me

Slow how
You wanted it to be
I'm over my head, out of her head she sang
Chorus-

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang
Verse 2-

Breathe out
So I could breathe you in
Hold you in

And now
I know you've always been
Out of your head, out of my head I sang
Chorus-

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang
Chorus-

And I wonder
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

Dave Grohl (sp?) I think is one of the best musicians out there. I really enjoy the new album.
