...by nature. Honker of a storm blew thru about 1930 last night and wrecked about three tents. Straight line winds of 80mph recorded at TIAP.

Among the damaged tents, the main fest tent was blown down by the storm. About 5000 people inside during "corporate sponsorship night." At least 25 taken by EMSA to hospital. At least one reported to have sustained a "life-threatening" head injury. Several classified in "serious" condition. Unknown number of "walking wounded."

Reportedly, quick thinking folks who dove under tables and/or stages were okay.

Announcement due today from the Oktoberfest board on whether it opens to the public today as it was scheduled. As an aside, tents are deathtraps during storms. Ridgepoles become dangerous projectiles when the thing comes crashing down.

Storm + ridgepole = "one life threatening injury"

Seriously, that would be a scary place to be in some Oklahoma weather.

According to a creepy-looking guy on teh newz last nite, they'll be open today at 5 after calling in some reinforcements from Wichatitty to help pitch a tent.

Heh, heh.

One of my friends was there last night with her 2-year-old son. Said it shook her up quite a bit. We had plans to go to Oktoberfest on Saturday, but now she doesn't want to go back.

You know, it's not a speakeasy. You can go without her...

Nothing like getting pole axed while you're doing the chicken dance.

I listened to TFD setting up command...Engine and Ladder 7 were both on the assignment and when it came in it came in as one injury. When they got there they immediately called for multiple ambulances. Last I heard, EMSA asked for a MTTA bus to help shuttle people.

Guy at work was in the tent.

He said he grabbed his pitcher of beer, ducked under the table, and just kept drinking and singing.

That whole situation could have wound up a lot worse than it did.

Yes it could have.

I was looking at that storm approaching while I was driving home last night, then when I turned onto Jackson I saw dozens of people still walking toward the festival grounds. I was like, "Are you out of your f*cking MINDS?!?"
