at the driving range with ph.

It's been like FOREVAR since I've used my clubs.

I hope I don't make a fool out of myself and throw my club in the air when I swing to hit the ball. That would be embarrassing.

Any golfing/ ball hitting pointers you golf guys care to share with this chick?

TIA

Watch out for the bewbs and balls. Got it!

Thanks guys!

Now what about my woods? They're Persimmon. Do I need to polish them before I go?

Start with your 9 iron and work your way up to the woods! Don't waste too much time on the driver - use the time/balls on the irons....

Right now my 9 iron is located next to my bed (It's my defense mechanism in case someone breaks in) but I'll be sure to use it Saturday instead of my woods.

How long should I use the 9 iron before I try to move up to the woods?

I don't want to go to the driving range and have everyone think I'm a complete n00b.

Thanks for the input.

Hit 8 with your 7 then 8 with your 9 or wedge then hulk up and start hitting the big ball with your metals....

SoonerGirl06
10/16/2007, 10:42 PM
Hit 8 balls with my 7, then 8 balls with my 9. What if I don't hit all 8 balls with each iron? Should I continue to use them or just go ahead and move to my woods?

I don't have metal woods. My woods are Persimmon. Does that make a difference as to when I should start using them?

If it's REALLY been forevAR since you've used the clubs and you don't want to let one slip out of your hands, you might think about re-gripping them OR wipe them down with something to restore their...."tackiness." (see: stickiness)

No you just clearly need new long sticks...

Practice with the 9 until you start feeling more comfortable with your swing - the number of balls depends on your comfort level. You'll find you will not need as many balls with the 7, to reach your comfort level. Spend a little more time with the 3 iron on accuracy and distance. Only after you feel good with the iron should you work with the wood.

For me, I use the irons more often than the woods, so I would spend more time swinging the irons.

How can golf be serious?

golf and the SO have not mixed well in the past few years.

Reference examples:

1. Arguments about who is the best golfer in the world have resulted in name calling, personal insults, outright lies and severe perma-bannings.

2. Some azzhole wanting to stink up the forum with constant recounts of his lucky-shot day at the course when the ball supposedly went in the hole with his hit from the tee. There have to go be more than 3 brazillion references to "the hole-in-one" in the search archives.

After a while, you just learn that golf and SO don't mix well.

Leave those persimmon woods in your bag, or better yet take 'em to the next Antiques Roadshow tour. Go find some used, next-generation metal woods with perimeter weighting. You'll thank yourself!

I don't think anyone's directly addressed the advice you're requesting.

Start slow. Grasp the shaft firmly, but gently - you'll want to work up to a fine sheen, not just dive in and start grippin' and rippin' so to speak. Be careful, some shafts are quite stiff while others whip around a bit depending on the player. OK, now, spit a bit on the head and start working it, working it, remember slowly at first but working up to a more demanding pace. At this point you should be noticing that a pretty good shine is working up, but don't get hasty! You don't want to exert so much force and friction that the finish heats up, gets sticky, and binds - you can tear it clean off in that case.

Keep up a good figure-8 motion until the head is in perfect condition - you'll know when this time comes.

Oh, and happy golfing!

Learn to play with the crappiest clubs you can find.

Later your game will improve.

Trust me...

I've helped many folks with their game. ;)

You've only had one hole-in-one?!?!? Does that me you have a hard time getting it in the hole? I've heard that some guys have that problem sometime. Maybe you should heed Krypton's advice and polish your woods before hand.

If dude puts it in 18 different holes in under three hours, he's ready for the 19th hole.

Just sayin.'

SG,

If you have not hit the balls yet remember the basic things:
1. Stance - Balance and Power
2. Grip
3.distance from the ball
4. Let gravity rule

Mixer!
