Do we need to get more points on Iowa St than Texas did in order to
gain in the BCS rankings?

No.

Last I heard, BCS-eligible computer polls had to stop counting margin of victory beyond 21 points. I think that was a couple of years ago.

The only way that win margin will hurt you is in the eyes of the people who vote in the polls. You don't want a very close game verses a bad team. They will drop you. (I.E. USC)

If we play Iowa State close we deserve whatever we get.

Looking at the current BCS computer polls, I do not believe margin of victory is included in ANY of the BCS computer polls.

And it is a damn shame, too. If you look at the Sagarin ratings, he has ELO-CHESS that the BCS uses and Predictor which is essentially the same formula but with margain of victory added in. In ELO-CHESS we are ranked 12, while in Predictor we are ranked 1.

We won't lose any votes because we will beat them by atleast 24-28 points.
Iowa St is terrible, they lost to Northern Iowa, and the avg score is 16-31. OU's D has a great chance to pad stats in this game.

margin will be many, many points. Perhaps too many to count.

Margin of victory is not a component in any the computer polls. A couple of the original polls declined to follow suit and the BCS had to pick up a few new computer polls.

Which doesn't make much sense since teams will still run up the score to influence the human pollsters.

Our margin seems to depend on what ever Bob Stoops want's it to be.

Even though a huge victory margin doesn't officially count, why not beat them as bad as we can to see if we can sway any voters by our awesome display of Sooner FB...and besides that it's fun to beat the ever-living tar out of folks. :D

btw, the title to this thread is an oxymoron..

Margin of victory doesnt have a direct formula impact in the BCS like it used to but it does have an influence on to voters who dont watch games and just read scores.

The pollsters will punish us some if we struggle and win by 10 points or less or if the game isn't iced until late. I don't think other than that it will make any difference whether we win 35-7 or 63-3.

Well, I think it's unanimous...we should win by as much as we possibly can and hopefully that will be 70 or so. The computers won't give a crap about the margin, but they will take into account things like scoring, defense, etc. and the humans will all be wowed by some stunning numbers.

If the margin of victory is any less than 28, I am going to be mad.
