I have a few questions.

#1. What is the purpose of the dot sticker on the bank of the quarterback's helmet?

Not to nitpick, but one question really doesn't constitute a "few". It's pretty much "one".

The sticker indicates that player has a radio reciever in their helmet so they can get plays from the sideline.

Maybe Hamhock was intending to ask a "few" more after getting an answer to #1. Ever think about that? Well, DID YOU?

In a small dose of irony, you're all right.

My "few" were intended to come one at a time. As it turns out, my next question was "It looks like the QB was holding his hands over his ears, as though he is receiving a radio signal".

are there any limits to this? can the guy upstairs yell out when to scramble, or which guy to throw it to?

The sticker is there to distinguish between normal helmets and the ones that should be worn when holding for an extra point or field goal. This is to prevent trick plays being radioed in at the last second, I believe.

The signal is shut off at about the :14 sec point in the play clock countdown. It is controlled by an independent 'man behind the curtain'. Example: Indy has two plays called from the sideline immediately, one run and one pass play, then PM goes to the line 'o scrimmage and changes it all. The call from the OC merely serves mostly to give the offense a formation to start from.

when did this start? i thought part of the competition was the ability for the coach to get the play communicated to the QB in time.

what's next a heads-up-display on the helmets?

There is talk that Middle LB's will get them next.

Question #3

Can someone succinctly explain the controversy surrounding the Patriots sign-stealing debacle? Why is this illegal? I though the other team always tried to figure out what kind of defense they were getting ready to see?

I believe it is because the Pats were videotaping the other teams signals being sent in. AS opposed to the accepted and acceptable method of spying on the other team without the use of video.

How will we know when "A Few" is over the limit of a few?

the NFL only allows one radio helmet on the field at any time, hence the dot so the ref's can make sure only one is on the field

I think the commonly accepted definition of "a few" is 3-5. I have fallen within this limit.

It is finished.

In logic, "some" means at least one. A "few" - I don't believe - is well-defined.

For example, "Some men are neanderthals", means "there exists at least one man who is a neanderthal."
