Incredible. I've never seen anything like that. Hell, I've never even imagined it. If you want to know what I'm talking about, just use google image search and look up 'Dubai'

The Sheik that runs the place seems like a pretty cool dude. Free healthcare, no taxes, little or no regulation, western-style freedoms.

I don't think so. It appears to be a true monarchy so no one votes except for the Sheik . But the ladies can dress skimpy and get good jobs.

i went to Dubai a few times right after Sand War I.


the $8 pints were enough for me to never want to go back (remember, that was in 1991 - it's probably $20/pint now).

iirc, dubai's also the place where i took a ride in a mercedes-benz cab.

They've got the indoor ski slope in a mall there, and the worlds tallest hotel.

they're either running out, or out of oil there. They're trying to do everything they can to make it very much a major tourist attraction, hoping that will fuel their income. Atleast that was my understanding.
