I apologize in advance if this has been posted before. I found the following video on youtube, and it made me really miss the 80's. Not that the 2000's have been bad or anything. Obviously not. But it made me really miss the wishbone. Good times!

Yeah, I miss the track meets as well. Conversely in the 70s and 80s everyone wanted us to throw more, especially against fast athletic defensive teams butt-hugging the LOS. Me, I just want to win the supposed easy ones without having the D stop them on the final drive, and win the toss-ups against good teams by commenting after the game "boy, that was a helluva call by our staff".

The wishbone was the greatest College offense ever invented. If we had kept switzer around we would of hand two more NC's from him.

The 87 team had one of the best D's ever.

They say Miami killed the bone. Nothing was wrong with the bone, the NFL and rules changes killed it. I say to this day you can still run the triple option and win a NC with it. You just have to update it a bit for the times.

Miami's "Dominance" in the 87 game wasn't. Check out the stats.

81-84 almost got Barry fired. 88 did. not for the same reason, though.

81-83 actually, he didn't do to bad in 84.

He lost 12 games in 3 years.
Of those 12 losses, all 12 were vs top 20 teams.

6 of those 12 were vs teams ranked 11-20
2 of those were vs teams ranked 6-10
4 of those 12 were vs top 5 opponents.

I blame MD and going away from the bone in those years ;)

I think the wishbone could still be an insanely effective formation. Seems to me it's the perfect goal-line or short-yardage package if you have the personnel to run it. All we're missing is a JD Runnels-caliber fullback; we've got running backs to spare.

Are you saying OU's offense sucked back then?

The 85 KSU game video was a "Great Sooner Moment"...might make you not miss the 90s that much more.

It also would have helped tremendously had Switzer successfully landed Turner Gill to Norman...

Its a good formation. Just need to keep the defense somewhat honest with about 15 passes a game instead of the 3-4.

The biggest problem isn't defensive speed (players on offense can get faster too) its the fact its hard to find a good wishbone QB that doesn't have NFL type asperations.

Switz could beat a top 20 team, just not those years. Switzer was 43-21-4 vs top 25 teams.

Which is really amazing how many top 25 teams he played. He coached in 190 games and played vs a top 25 team 68 times.

i know. Barry was something like 21-6-1 against Osborne, Bowden, Paterno, Royal, Schembechler, and Hayes.

let the list of other people to do that start here.....

Yes. It is good to remember that there once were mighty men and that they played football.

I was at OU for the '87 season and what I remember is the atmosphere.

It was not a sport. It was not a game. It was a gawdam jihad, a gotterdamerung, hammer-jack stomp into the houses of our enemies with the intent of leaving said residences nothing more than smoking ruins inhabited by ghosts and broken spirits.

If anyone missed a game then, the question when they got in touch was not 'who won?' but 'what was our margin of victory?'.

Life as it should always be.

I think the field was plenty wide enough last night.
