Allpar News: Jeep gets Army contract

Chrysler International Corp. was awarded a $38 million contract for commercial Wrangler long wheelbase Jeeps, diesel engines, transmissions, and transfer cases by the U.S. Army Tank - Automotive and Armaments Command in Warren, Michigan. The contract was initiated in June 2006, and delivery is due by February 2008.

I visited the Tank Automotive and Armaments Command in Warren, Michigan back in June. It was pretty interesting. I had no idea what a big deal trucks were for the Army until then.

What the press release is not saying is what they're being bought for and how they'll be used. They won't replace the Hummvee, the Army is still working on that contract and shooting for something in 2012 or so.

so now our boys in Iraq and Afghanistan will be sitting in the streets with busted transmissions and horrible electrical problems. I guess that will employ more mechanics.
