NORMAN — ESPN's College GameDay will originate from Norman this
weekend and University of Oklahoma officials have announced logistics
for fans wanting to be part of the event.

The location for the set will be the infield of John Jacobs Track, which
is immediately east of Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Fans
may enter from gates that will be open only on the southwest corner of
the track facility. Officials are stressing that the track itself will
be closed and all pedestrians should restrict themselves to the grass
infield or bleachers on the south side of the track.

The first time that ESPN will originate from Norman is Friday at 4 p.m.
Gates will be open to fans at 3:00 p.m. The Saturday morning show
originates at 9 a.m. ESPN has requested that fans be in place by 8
a.m., and gates will be open at 7 a.m.

The parking lots adjacent to the track will be controlled on Friday and
Saturday as they are on all game weekends. Those attending GameDay
functions will need to make alternate parking plans.

Restroom facilities will be provided in the Mosier Indoor Track south of
the track.

Other events on campus to note for Saturday will be OU Volleyball
hosting No. 1-ranked Nebraska at McCasland Field House at 1 p.m. and the
Homecoming Parade beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Booooo. That's not a very cool spot at all.

I would've liked to see it between Walker and Adams.

what if you get there after 9am, will you still be allowed in?

I assume this is so the stadium and maybe Heisman Park will be visible in the background? It is kind of a lame location. I wonder what part security concerns played in this.

That would be amazing, but it would be harder for the 5-0 and campus officials to turn a blind eye to the alcohol if ESPN set up between two dorms.

So who's bringing the washington state flag??

There wouldn't really be a very cool background from Walker-Adams. This way the background will be the new side of the stadium (I imagine). That'll make for a cool backdrop.

I've got it covered this week.

I vote for the constipated female angle sumo wrestler across from catlett being the backdrop.

We should ALL be proud of that thing!

I guess things have changed since the days when Coors, Bud and Miller had giveaways on the Walker-Adams mall.

If you did it right, wide angle shots would include satan's horse as well. What a fine sight indeed.

I doubt they would ever put it on the mall since it's not by the stadium. However, that would make for a cool location though since you could pile tons of people on that elongated lawn with rows of trees on each side. The background would be kind of boring though and that always seems to be a big factor in the setup. Hence, the track location with the upper deck in the background.

Well the press release mentions fans sitting in the bleachers. If the set is facing that direction, then the stadium won't be in the backdrop either. If they position the set so either it faces or the crowd faces the venue, then yea, it's a pretty sweet idea. I'll try and walk past this area tomorrow and snag some pictures.

You've got the idea. Gameday will face the east end of the stadium, just like the last time they were here.

If I ever go on a DUI rampage, these two things are dead. I love the OU campus, but I'm ashamed of these two pieces of "art". I love the "peace pipe indian", thats classy. These two things look like Dr. Seuss horrors.

Maybe they will go with the crowd in front of the guys at the desk, instead of behind them

That aerial shot of the stadium really emphasizes how many seats the current South End Zone costs us.
I never realized it was that dramatic.

The Gameday in Norman in 2000 was the Nebraska Game. They did it in the Southwest corner of Memorial Stadium.

Other Gameday's in 2000 were all on the road: KState, aTm, Big 12 Championship Game, Orange Bowl

It was really odd having Game Day at Norman with FSN broadcasting the game, really odd.
