Sad.

Who knew the Grand Canyon was dangerous?

That place freaked me out when I was there.

How anyone can walk to the edge without flipping out is beyond me.

I slid on my belly to the edge and looked over...afterwards I felt pretty stupid that I did it. I don't know how far it was down but I've looked down the cracks in the bridge of the Royal Gorge and it seemed further than that to me.

BTW The Royal Gorge Bridge is freaky too IMO.

That is so sad!!!! :( :( :( :( I still make my 7 year old hold either my hand or my husband's hand when we go hiking in the mountains for that very reason!

Yep, I still make my 7 and 5 year old kids hold my hand in parking lots. This is truly a very sad story.

When visited the Grand Canyon, I didn't attempt to go near the edge. I could see what I wanted from a few feet away from the ledge. Got my pics and I was good to go.

I would like to go out on the platform they built over the edge.

I think it will still freak me out though.

Flag...Have you been out on that thing yet?

No, that's way out in the boonies and they charge and arm and a leg. You can get plenty of hairy views just hiking the trails.

I did, but I'm 21. Someone should have been with this girl.

I remember when I first saw the Grand Canyon (probably 20 yrs ago) and they had this little wooden railing between the tourists and going over the edge. I thought then, how is this little thing supposed to stop someone from falling? Poor little girl. My kids are 11 and 12 and I hold their hands still.

My dad told me that when he went to the Grand Canyon on a family trip as a kid that my two uncles (both older than him) would grab him by the ankles and hold him upside down over the ledge.

About a week after I hiked to the floor of the Canyon someone was blown off the exact same trail I had went down . . .

I visited that precise location last year when I drove to Vegas for a scooter rally. I remember thinking parents were crazy to let their children run around, but they were doing it. I guess the parents thought that amazing panorama was some some sort of gigantic TV screen.

I always stand well away from the edges. I have heights issues. People who don't watch their kids really **** me off.

Everytime we go somewhere, as soon as we stop the 3 year old is saying "Daddy there's cars. You gotta hold my hand."

I bet a kick in the sack would actually ease the pain that he is feeling right now

And it may be just me, but if the kid goes over the edge.. I'm following him down

Nope. It's not just you. I thought the same thing. Damn, I hate seeing stories like this. My kids are getting hugged extra tight this morning.

We've been 3 or 4 times and each time there's been kids running around with little to no parental supervision. Mind boggling.

It's a dangerous place if you're not careful.

For what its worth, the AZ papers are reporting that the father is an Air Force pilot at Luke.
