My wife wants one. We've looked around a little and she has her heart set on a precor, which is the best and they have some used models at a local store that are affordable. Now I've started seriously looking and it looks like the other big player in ellipticals is a make called Sole'. Quite a bit cheaper and supposed to be close in quality.

Anyone have any experience with Sole' machines? Anything else I should be considering?

I know that Precor is supposed to be the best. Way out of my price range though.

They are way better than treadmills and I use the elliptical machine for 30-45 minutes before playing basketball and it makes a huge difference.

Precor are fantastic, but then again, their prices are quite high. My wife and I bought a proform model like this one http://www.proform.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product2_13402_10351_47751_-1_21664 two years ago. It has served us well. I use it 5-6 times a week and it still runs great. We liked it so much we also bought a proform treadmill. My wife uses it, I use the elliptical. We got them at Sam's for a reasonable price. My Orthopedist has a precor and said he has it serviced every year. I haven't had proform looked at once.
