played oak hill (east) for the first time today - site of many a majors including US OPENS, PGA CHAMP., RYDER CUP, and next year's senior pga championship. growing up here in rochester, ny, i only was on the course once during the '89 open. was fairly happy with my play, but missed 5 makeable birdie putts on the back. started the day with a triple... finished with an 81 on one of the most difficult courses in the world (pine valley is easily #1 in difficulty). i'll post some more pics tomorrow, but here is the view from the 13th tee:

#11 - a fantastically difficult par 3 - 230 yards. missed an 8 foot birdie putt here.

Dude, put some time in with the putter. ;)

Looks beautiful. I wish I could have been there with you. I bet the weather right now is perfect. I look forward to more pictures.

I bet that place sells great hats.

If there was an Eightsome on the tee with no shirts on, I'd agree.

heh.

usually my putting keeps me in the game. they punched their greens about 2 weeks ago. so, lets just say they weren't in ryder cup form. little bumpy. had a couple putts that took some strange bounces.

#5. great par3 with allens creek surrounding the green (picture taken from the regular member tee - we played the championship tees). about 190yrds. hit a lovely 6-iron to about 12 feet. missed the putt. 4 hole-in-ones here on sunday of the '89 open. next to this, kinda makes 4LIFE's look like a 1 at "pirates cove golf adventure" in virginia beach.

Dude, that slope on #3 looks ridiculous...

AND with that tree there, it'd be kinda tough for pat to hit his 20 yard fade

the green is sloped pretty good from back-to-front. that tree comes more into play from the member tees. the champ. tees actually give you a better angle in (back and right from where i was standing here).

#8. beautiful par 4. like hitting through a hallway.

#12 approach. can'tsee the bottom of the pin. huge green.
http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/2129/oakhill019vs6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

#13 approach back up to the clubhouse. pretty decent uphill approach. gotta be 10 bunkers protecting the green. sweep place to watch a tourney from (up at the green).

very similar to CV...well, except for all the trees, bunkers and slope. but really, that's just filler stuff.

Exactly. When you hit it dead straight at the target every time, the rest of that stuff is a waste.

what about the second shot???

seriously, i'm the king of 280-300 yard drives, standing there with a wedge in my hand in the middle of the fairway, then taking bogey.

apparently my wedge game sucks.

No, it's the one on 89th and Shields that resembles a goat farm.

You're thinking of Westwood in Norman.

They're both beasts though.

Beasts I tell you.

Westwood, ugh. I'm waiting for KC to pipe in on this one.

Great track there, Fadada. You should try to make it downstate to Sleepy Hollow. Classic place.

no kidding. the fella that did their renovation, gil hanse, is doing ours here at monroe. the course i came from outside of philly, is one of his original designs. i'd love to get down there... knowing his work and the stories about what he did there, i'd love to get down to play. also, if you ever get the chancce to play boston country club (not TPC boston, which he was in on)... apparently, it's freaking amazing.

oak hill (east) rating and slope from the championship tees: 76.9/147

Yes, they only allow stroke play for singles and you have to buy all the drinks before you get a hole in one.

I thought that according to the rules of bedroom golf it was considered good form to play the same hole twice...
