Thinking back to residency, Children's Hospital did sometimes ask about guns in the house and if Mom and Dad smoke in the house. They would talk to the parents about gun locks and not smoking, but this was done in front of the parents. The above article seems to take it even further.


Reminds me of the story of the little girl saying he "Daddy puts his pee-pee in my pee-pee". The shocked ER doc starts to question the embarrassed father. It turns out, sometimes the dad pees in the toilet right after his daughter uses the toilet.
The level of suspicion in a peds ER is high.

With all the abuse the ER doc's see, I can understand some questioning on there part, but I'd want to be privy of it before they do it.
