Well, the dude is still kicking, and can sing almost as well "as ever". It was a small venue, the "Rhythm Room" seating maybe 400? There was a warm-up band, pretty good, all instrumental. Then, before Leon came on, the club personnel adjusted the volume much too freakin' high. It made the instruments hard to hear clearly, and sorta hurt the ears. But, after getting a bit used to it, it wasn't a bad show. The arrangements were massively different from the original recordings from the early '70's, but still were distinctively and enjoyably Leon Russell. It sure would have been more enjoyable with less distortion.
I heard he had gotten into an auto accident, and was crippled. But, he walked onto the stage, using a cane, and sat down at the piano. I haven't googled him. I'm guessing he's 75 or so.
