I'm thinking it's the other way around.Too much money going to one side will force the bookmaker to move the line to get it balanced out.
That is what it looks like to me.The line moved almost 5 points probably because all the money was going to the OU side.
Just a guess as I am not a gambler.

I think the way it works is, they set the spread, then watch the money. As bets are placed for one team (in this case OU) they adjust the spread (10, 10.5, 11) until they have about the same number of gamblers betting each team.

Thus far, the spread has increased each day since it opened, looks like, which means not enough betting on saxet yet.

I am sure the line will swing back in Texas' direction once this guy places his bet:

This is correct. The bookie gets 10% vig on all bets. Hence, the ideal situation for a bookie is to have equal money on each team. That way the losers pay the winners and the bookie gets his money. Hence, if all the money is going on OU, the bookie will move the line to make it less attractive to bet on OU and more attractive to bet on Texas.

Why is the "money line" and spread different, i.e., "money line" has UT as the favorites and OU has the "dog".

Actually the money line reflects the amount you will win if that team wins the game straight up. In other words, its 3.25 - 1 that Texas will win the game and 1 - 4.50 that Oklahoma will win the game.

This means for every $1.00 you bet on Texas to win, you will win $3.25 if they win the game. On the other side, you have to bet $4.50 to win a $1.00 on Oklahoma to win the game straight up.

The money line has nothing to do with the spread, they are two seperate bets and you are only betting on which team you think will win the game.

BTW, the smartest wagerer(sp?) in the world put money on OU when it was -6.5 and is now putting money on UT at +12. If OU won the game by 7-11 points, you win both bets. I wish I knew where this line was going to go. :-(
