STILLWATER (AP) - Prosecutors have charged an Oklahoma State University student with blackmail for allegedly threatening to post on the Internet videos of him and his ex-girlfriend having sex.
James Cory Lanier, 20, who was arraigned this week and released on $5,000 bond, is accused of trying to blackmail the woman for sex.
Lanier, a political science sophomore from Edmond, lives in a residence hall on campus.
His attorney, Billy Bock, said a not guilty plea was automatically entered on Lanier's behalf.
"He is a great kid, a wonderful student," Bock said. "He may have made what I consider an error in judgment. I have referred to it as an adolescent error in judgment."
If convicted, Lanier could face a five-year prison term and a $10,000 fine.
A 19-year-old student told OSU police that she had been dating Lanier until about a year ago, an affidavit said. Lanier had made videotapes of their sexual activity, which he kept after the relationship ended, the affidavit alleged.
