To take it even further, do you leave the yolk runny, or cook it solid? I prefer runny, it's like it comes with its own gravy to be sopped up with the bread.

Eggs cooked "over medium", with mayo and a slab of ham or bacon. Miracle Whip is for girls.

We like fried egg sandwiches. I fry the eggs with a little bit of Bran or Safflower oil. My father cant have anything fried in oil, so I fry his up in my cast iron skillet with a little water, so I suppose that would actually be poached. I think egg sandwiches are especially good served on toasted Tuscan bread with some Miracle Whip or Mayo. Akins has a good Tuscan bread. I put some paprika, sea salt, fresh ground pepper, minced jalapenos and grated cheese on the table for those who want it.

When you try it, make sure you get a jar of pimento olives to follow it with.

When I was little, my mom said "you are going to eat this and like it", and I did.

With mayo. And swiss. On toast, with the yolk just a touch runny.

There were times when an egg sammich was the only thing I had to eat. I remember taking soda bottles up to the store to get enough change to buy a loaf of bread, and then getting eggs from the chicken coup to fry up. I love me an egg sammich, and I don't care if it's got cheese, tomatoes, butter, mayo, or whatever. I can eat them pretty much any way. Except for the fact that I haven't had a piece of bread since last April. Man, I miss egg sammiches more than I miss french fries.

Your hillbilly card is safe. :D
The history of fried egg sandwiches spans the whole globe. Different regions are known to serve them on different breads and with various toppings depending on whats readily available in that area. In the beginning, English muffins and Bagels were used primarily in the northern states, while biscuits were more popular in the southern states. In Sweden they serve fried, or sliced hardboiled egg sandwiched on toast with cod roe caviar. In England, British soldiers refer to a fried egg sandwich as an "egg banjo". For an added southern twist, I serve mine with fried green tomatoes when they're available.

I've gotta put bacon and cheese on 'em, though. I don't like downing anything that healthy. :D

a couple fried egg soft corn tortilla tacos with some melted soft white cheese with a little green tomatillo salsa or generic hot sauce is the best breakfast you can have.

minus a place that can do chilaquiles. i like a little runny egg to mop up.

The NYC area may have perfected the egg sandwich market. They are everywhere here. Every deli? Check. Every diner? Check. Every restaurant? Check.

I love 'em. They don't love me back. :(

Not a big fan of the fried egg sandwich, so when I do have a couple of over easy eggs, I like to mash them up with my hash browns.

Hells yes. Love em.

Little known fact, fried eggs are actually better for you (cholesterol-wise) than scrambled. Just dont break the yolk while frying.

And I agree it needs to be slightly runny.
