You should check out some of Mark Knopfler's solo work as well.

My faves are "Twisting by the Pool" and "Industrial Disease".

Industrial Disease is Dire Straits, but I agree about Knopfler's solo work. Ragpicker's Dream has some really good stuff, as does Shangri-la. I believe he has a new release or is due.

Just the other day I heard an XM dj talking about how one of the major labels in the 70's would not sign Dire Straits because Knopfler couldn't sing.

That is funny. When their first album was released, he was advertised as sounding "just like Bob Dylan". :D

Your new band of the month is a band that had their major heyday in the 80s and broke up several years ago? ;)

I mean, they're awesomeness, for sure...

And Knopfler's new solo album is good, but if you have right-leaning tendencies and can't ignore political messages in music, it's going to irritate you.

I remember thinking it was Bob Dylan. I was in the Army and actually got into an argument with a dude in my unit about whether it was or wasn't.
