No. 8 SOONERS SWEEP TEXAS TECH

OKLAHOMA TRAVELS TO No. 10 LINDENWOOD THIS WEEKEND

THIS WEEK’S GAMES - The University of Oklahoma® hockey club (2-0-0) hits the road for the first time this season to take on the No. 10 team in the nation, the Lions of Lindenwood University (1-1-0). Oklahoma has an all-time record of 5-4-0 against Lindenwood, including a 3-1-0 record on the road against the Lions. The last time the two teams met was at the ACHA D1 Showcase in October 2007 in which the Sooners shutout the Lions 2-0.

LAST OU HOCKEY GAMES – Oklahoma swept a pair of games against ACHA D2 Texas tech this past weekend in Oklahoma City. On Friday evening, the Sooners found themselves in the penalty box for most of the first period and gave Tech a few 5-on-3 power play opportunities. The Red Raiders used the man advantage to get an early 2 goal lead on the Sooners. However, the Sooners scored nine unanswered goals over the last 50 minutes of the game to win 9-2. Saturday's contest saw six different Sooners score goals for OU as they dominated a tired Tech squad all night long. Tech notched a late power play goal to scrub any chance of a Sooners shutout, but the outcome was never in doubt as the Sooners rolled to a 7-1 win. Forwards Sean McCauley (Naperville, IL) and Keith Denton (Vail, CO) scored three goals each on the weekend, while forwards Kyle Allan (Flagstaff, AZ) and Doug Gebbie (Frisco, TX) and defenseman Austin Miller (Dallas, TX) each scored a pair of goals in the weekend series. Defenseman Shawn Hayden (Allen, TX) garnered four assists on the weekend while McCauley, Gebbie and forward Daniel Siira (Anchorage, AK) each had three assists against Tech.

RANKINGS – The Sooners found themselves ranked 8th in the 2007-2008 pre-season ACHA Coaches Division 1 ranking released this past weekend. The Sooners received one first place vote and 561 total points, 26 points behind No. 7 Delaware but 53 points ahead of No. 9 Iowa State. Lindenwood was 10th with 490 points. Conspiracy theorists, sorry to disappoint, but Head Coach Donovan did not submit that lone first vote for Oklahoma.

SCOUTING THE LIONS – Like Oklahoma, this is the fifth season for hockey at Lindenwood. Lindenwood's Head Coach, Derek Schaub, has brought in thirteen newcomers to his 27 man roster. Forward Quinn Henry is back for his senior season and has been named captain of the Lions. Lindenwood also returns two of their top three goal scorers from last season. Junior Henri St. Arnault finished second on the team last year with 18 goals and 39 assists. Senior Larry Kopecky was right behind St. Arnault with 20 goals and 33 assists. Senior goaltender Grahame Lippert returns to man the pipes for the Lions. Lippert finished last season with a 21-12-0 record, a 3.63 GAA and a .882 save percentage.
