OKLAHOMA 7, TEXAS TECH 1

The University of Oklahoma® Hockey club, ranked 8th in the ACHA D1 preseason coaches ranking, took care of business tonight with a solid 7-1 win over Texas Tech. Sooners forward Sean McCauley (Naperville, IL) scored at the 13:10 mark of the first period to give OU a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Austin Miller (Dallas, TX) ripped a laser shot from the point into the Tech net at 16:51 of the first to give the Sooners a two goal lead.

In the second period, forward Jarrod Yost (Murphy, TX) scored on the power play at 4:29 to give OU a three goal cushion. Forward Keith Denton (Vail, CO) continued his goal scoring ways with a tally almost two minutes later. Through 40 minutes of action, the Sooners led 4-0 and outshot the Red Raiders by a 25-7 margin. Oklahoma had a fine minute power play in the third after Tech was assessed a major penalty and they made the most of man advantage. Forward Doug Gebbie (Frisco, TX) scored a nifty goal from the top of the Tech crease just 3:32 into the period to send OU up 5-0. Forward Kyle Allan (Flagstaff, AZ) scored the last two goals for OU, one on the power play and one at even strength, to increase the lead to seven goals. Tech finally got on the scoreboard with a power play tally of their own around the midway point of the third period but it was a case of too little, too late. A minor melee broke out a few minutes after Tech's goal but the game's outcome was never in doubt, ending with the Sooners winning 7-1.

Sooners goaltender Rob Mattison stopped 14 of the 15 shots he faced from the Red Raiders. Texas Tech goaltender Mike Monk stopped 45 of the 52 Sooners shots tonight. Oklahoma was 3 for 13 on the power play while Texas Tech was 1 for 9 with the man advantage.

With the win, the Sooners improve to 2-0-0 on the season while Texas Tech drops to 0-2-0. Oklahoma travels to St. Louis to face No. 10 Lindenwood next Friday and Saturday.
